Bryn Awel helps fund hit the top note, The Bryn Awel Hotel, Mold
The congregation of a North Wales church are nearing their fundraising target to get their beloved organ restored – thanks to a little help from a nearby hotel.
The Bryn Awel hosted and provided the refreshments for a cream tea event, held by members of St Mary’s Church in Mold, and allowed all proceeds from the event to go toward the church organ restoration fund.
Church member John Delahoy said: “We are very grateful to Greg Shankar at the Bryn Awel for putting this event on for us.
“It was an extremely successful day, with about 70 people attending. We made about £400 in total on the day and that has taken us well within reach of our target amount.”
The church organ has been in place in the church since 1973 and is now desperately in need of restoration. The work will cost in the region of £20,500, and although the church has received some grants, church members themselves have raised most of the money.
They are now just a few thousand pounds off their target, and are hoping that the organ will be taken away for repairs in September. They will have a replacement for the 10 weeks or so it will take to complete the repairs.
Greg Shankar, Director of the Bryn Awel Hotel, said: “I am very pleased we were able to help the group with their worthy cause.
“The event went brilliantly and it was a pleasure to see so many people turn out to help raise money.”
John Delahoy added: “We at the church would like to thank Greg and the Bryn Awel for their help, kindness and generosity in helping us with our appeal.”
Anyone who would like to make a donation towards the organ restoration fund can do so in the donation box in the church foyer.
