Mold chefs join forces for Italian feasts, The Bryn Awel Hotel, Mold

TWO of Mold's best-known restaurateurs who have been friends for more than 20 years, are joining forces for the first time to offer local people a series of evenings of the very finest Italian cuisine and Italian folk entertainment.
Gaetano Sciarrillo, owner of the Belvedere Restaurant on Wrexham Road in Mold and Greg Shankar of the Bryn Awel Hotel are using their joint talents to develop a series of Italian themed partnership events at the hotel, starting on January 26 and subsequently on the last Monday of every month.

Greg and Gaetano first met when Gaetano took part in an Italian Food Festival at the Moat House in Bolton when Greg was manager there. A native of Naples, Gaetano has lived in the UK since he was ten years old and has made a name for himself as a top class chef and successful businessman having celebrated more than 20 years at Belvedere.

Greg has been manager of Bryn Awel since 1999 and has grand plans to change the image of the hotel, which is undergoing a major refurbishment programme to transform it.

Greg explains: "Both Gae and I enjoy creative cooking and for some time we have discussed the opportunity to work together. Gae is a superb chef and this way we get the best of both worlds as Bryn Awel can hold more people than Belvedere with room for entertainment and we get to offer genuine home-cooked traditional Italian cuisine.

"We are great friends with lots of ideas on how we can work together. Despite both running businesses in the same town, there is no competition between us, more a friendly partnership and we have no plans to change our existing businesses, just work together every so often to add some variety to what we can offer."

Gae is looking forward to the new venture: "It is a great opportunity and I am keen to apply my abilities to such an established hotel. It is very much a spirit of co-operation and I hope that existing and new customers will come along to give it a try," he said.

The first Italian night will be held on January 26 at Bryn Awel Hotel and will cost £19.95 per person for a four-course meal with entertainment.
